The LANAP Protocol For Periodontitis
The LANAP® procedure utilizes the highly specialized PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser to provide a less invasive, more acute treatment to gum disease. The protocol targets and kills the bacteria that cause gum disease, removes damaged gum tissue, and reattaches healthy tissue back to a tooth’s root surface. LANAP® treats gum disease without the pain, gum line recession, and increased sensitivity traditionally associated with periodontal treatments.
The LANAP protocol is the only laser gum disease treatment FDA cleared for True Regeneration based on scientific evidence. Simply put, the LANAP protocol can re-grow the tissues and bone lost to gum disease. Compared to traditional osseous surgery, patients say the LANAP protocol is:
- Less pain
- Less bleeding
- Less sensitivity
- Less gum loss
- Less swelling
- Very little downtime after treatment
- Less Post-op infections
- Promotes regeneration of supporting gum tissues
- Healing is perceived to be faster and more comfortable than conventional surgery
- Perio probe indicates excessive pocket depth
- Laser radiation vaporizes bacteria, diseased tissue, pathologic proteins, and alerts the practitioner to the presence of tartar
- Ultrasonic scaler and special hand instruments are used to remove root surface accretions
- Bone is modified at time of surgery
- Laser is used to form a gel-clot containing stem cells from bone and PDL
- Reattachment of reté ridges to clean root surface, with a stable fibrin clot at the gingival crest to create a ‘closed system’
- Occlusal trauma adjusted
- New attachment is regenerated
